New Resources for the Jazz Saxophonist – Available in Shop
Over the years I’ve taught a lot of sax students, helping lots of them develop their improvising. I noticed that a lot of the jazz etude and licks books out there either aren’t particularly substantial, or don’t fully explain how to use licks well when improvising. My new books set this straight.
Please note, as most of my website’s visitors are now not UK based, I’m now processing payments in US Dollars for their ease of purchase.

If you are looking for some new material to work on, recommend you check out my new book Jazz Etudes for Saxophone, Vol. 1. Here you’ll find 12 authentic “solo length” jazz etudes, written to showcase how I add licks to solos when improvising.
These etudes are also full of useful language and techniques, including enclosures, tri-tone substitutions, diminished and altered scale licks. All vital aspects for any saxophonist to master, and seeing them in context like this is an extremely useful learning resource.

My book Jazz Licks for Saxophone, Vol. 1 focuses on the “Long” Major II-V-I chord progression with 100 great bebop styled licks in all 12 keys.
This is invaluable language for any saxophonist, but the real strength of this book licks is how it introduces you to concept of Interchangeable Licks.
Master how to splice blocks of language together when you improvise and you will unlock a new level of creativity in your solos. This is something that I work on with my own playing and I recommend that you do the same!
